Joan Jett is without a doubt one of the most iconic figures in the history of rock, and a reference for many women who have decided to open up a space for themselves in the music industry over the past four decades, with declared fans ranging from L7, Sonic Youth, Hole, Bikini Kill, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Donnas to Britney Spears. With the The Runaways she toured with Cheap Trick, Van Halen, Ramones, Tom Petty, etc. and had enormous success in countries such as Japan, where they were authentic goddesses. This initial adolescent stage was adapted for the screen with a film in which she was played by Kristen Stewart (Twilight). As a solo artist, she went on to record the first version of ‘I Love Rock And Roll’, in England with the Sex Pistols, ultimately released with The Blackhearts at the begging of the 80s, and which topped the Billboard charts for seven weeks. Joan Jett is a legend that we have wanted to bring to Azkena since our first edition, and who rock ‘n’ roll fans can at last exclusively enjoy in Spain as the first top of the bill to confirm for the next edition of the festival.
